From Time Out Film Guide

This quixotic time-travel movie comes on like a lunatic blend of Time Bandits, Tati and Benny Hill. Tall 12th century knight Godefroy de Montmirail (Reno) and his short-arse servant Jacquouille (Clavier) return to France from foreign wars. Under a witch's curse, Godefroy mistakes his intended father-in-law for a bear and shoots him with an arrow. A potion from wizard Eusebius intended to take him back in time instead hurtles him and his servant into contemporary France, where he finds their castle is now an upmarket chateau-restaurant run by Godefroy's distant relative, the effete Béatrice (Lemercier). Shot in the verdant hills of Languedoc, this puerile caper is likely to appeal more to fans of Will Hay and Mr Bean than those of Monty Python. Exquisite period detail and sophisticated effects.
