The Nephew (1997)
Director: Eugene Brady
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Pierce Brosnan turns producer with this resolutely routine Irish saga about the bitter hold of the past. Harper's dreadlocked black New Yorker arrives on a remote Irish island to return his mother's ashes to the place where she was born. His arrival provokes surprise among the locals, and leaves the lad himself with quite a lot of adjusting to do, not the least of which is getting his head round the longstanding feud between his grumpy old uncle (McCann) and the community's smoothie barman (Brosnan, of course). Naturally, the new generation gets things moving, but not before a few bumps along the way give the accomplished cast something to chew on. Sturdy but unexciting.Author: TJ
