The Nude Bomb (1980)
Director: Clive Donner
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
From the production team that gave us TV's Get Smart - part of that post-McCarthy tradition in spy series intent on demonstrating that the individualist bungling West could defeat the starkly mechanical East. For the big screen, though, the producers have turned post-Watergate: corporate business is now the object of paranoia. The flimsy plot is built around a Mafia-style designer (Dana) whose organisation (KAOS) broadcasts worldwide the fact that it has the power to destroy all known fabrics. Unless ransom is paid it will unleash its device: will Agent 86 (Adams) and his female companions be able to save the world from nakedness? 'From a character conceived by Mel Brooks', reads the blurb, and there are various nods to his style of humour throughout this bitty spoof. But the rest relies more on technology than style, and on mediocre effects that can't carry the plot.Author: RW
