The Experts (1989)
Director: Dave Thomas
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A lame-brain Cold War comedy. New York trendies Travolta and Gross are hired to open a disco in a small Midwestern town - or so they think. In fact, they have been flown in to a top-secret KGB installation modelled on a supposedly average American burgh. The Russkies hope these innocents abroad will authenticate and update their project. In terms of the Super Powers, this is very thin stuff. Fractionally more interesting is the implicit contrast between the pure '50s Americana the Soviets have reproduced, and the '80s values (Japanese hardware, et al) Travolta brings to it.Author: TCh
