Exposé (1975)
Director: James Kenelm Clarke
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This follow-up to Clarke's Man Alive TV report on sexploitation movies ran into censorship troubles with its explicit links between sex and violence. A paranoid author (Kier) living in an isolated country house hires a secretary (Hayden) to help him complete an overblown but potentially successful sex novel. The secretary turns out to be a psychopath who, before exposing the author as bogus, blasts two rapists with a shotgun, cuts the throat of an elderly woman, and then kills the author's girlfriend (Richmond) in the bath with the same knife. Clarke directs this derivative screenplay (a diluted solution of Psycho and Straw Dogs) with more economy than one expects from the genre. But Richmond demonstrates little of her renowned sexual athleticism, and the decorous, carefully placed sexual encounters are as predictable and passionless as ever.Author: JPy
