The Wash (2001)
Director: DJ Pooh
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg's previous film was the nasty, full-on porn flick Doggystyle. But his appearance here, with long term collaborator Dr Dre, is strictly comedy softcore. When bumbling Sean (Dre) loses his job at a sports store, his roommate, streetwise hustler Dee (Snoop) tells him to try for a job at the carwash where Dee works. After an encounter with the wacky manager (Wallace, persuasive), Sean ends up as Dee's boss, and fitful madcap comedy ensues. Some of the action, written and directed by DJ Pooh, is genuinely funny, and some performances, notably Dre's, are surprisingly sharp. But the lame, underdeveloped jokes far outweigh the fresh ones, the women are all chirpy airheads, and the whole thing hangs on a feeble storyline. A pity, because deep beneath the weed smoke, the HipHop and the cleavage shots, there's the kernel of a funny film.Author: CSa
