Weapons of Mass Distraction (1997)
Director: Stephen Surjik
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Stephen Surjik directed the superior Wayne's World sequel, but the key credit here belongs to screenwriter Larry Gelbart, best known for Tootsie and the TV MASH. A fictional companion piece to his award winning 1993 cable movie Barbarians at the Gate (a satire about the corporate buy out of RJR Nabisco), it features Kingsley and Byrne as feuding multimedia tycoons whose one-upmanship escalates to the point of mutual destruction. This is cruder than Barbarians and lacks the same true-story sting, but it's even more savage in its portrait of capitalism run rampant. (Look out for Paul Mazursky in a cameo as a penis transplant specialist.) TCh.Author: TCh
