When Time Ran Out (1980)
Director: James Goldstone
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Well, there's this island in the Pacific where maverick oil-driller Newman hits the black stuff, much to the delight of Franciscus, screwy scion of the island's ruling family. A wooden effigy of Holden jets in with Bisset, summoned by Franciscus to locate one of his luxury hotels there. Bisset was mean to Newman, so he glowers at her. Franciscus' daddy was mean to him, so he glowers at daddy's portrait. Holden suspects Franciscus of telling whoppers about the future intentions of the island's volcano, so he glowers. (The subsidiary characters glower a lot too). Amid all the tension, the volcano blows its stack. 'Is anything wrong?' someone asks. 'No, nothing's wrong' says someone else. Something is very wrong. There's a tidal wave and an earthquake, flaming balls of fire and a menacing lava flow, and Newman decides to get the hell out with the major stars. A real movie disaster, scripted by Carl Foreman and Stirling Silliphant.Author: DSi
