Where the Boys Are (1984)
Director: Hy Averback
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Social scientists might care to run this in comparison with the 1960 original (the one with the Connie Francis title song) to measure how much more mature teenagers are about bodily functions 24 years on: not very, but they've learned lots of new synonyms for 'urinate'. Four college girls descend on a Florida resort to get laid (1960: looking for romance). The first version played with moral dilemmas but reached only Bible-class conclusions. By '84 independent and liberated women can pay to see themselves represented as slutty, avaricious and brutal. ('Get undressed! When I buy a piece of meat I sure as hell want to see what's under the wrapper.') The next remake is presumably due around 2008. Can't wait?Author: DO
