Who's Harry Crumb? (1989)
Director: Paul Flaherty
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Candy makes the transition from sidekick to stardom as Harry Crumb, bumbling private eye. The plot is a lightweight concotion for a heavyweight hero, concerning the kidnapped daughter of multi-millionaire PJ Downing (Corbin). The incompetent sleuth has been given the assignment because the corrupt head of the investigation agency (Jones) is involved in the kidnapping and has every confidence that Crumb will fail. But, as always in such cases, stupidity triumphs over cynicism. Things plod to their inevitable conclusion, helped along by the script's assortment of stereotypical underdogs and manipulators, and with Candy hamming up the oppourtunity to get into lots of tight spots while wearing funny disguises. At their silliest, such moments actually provide light relief from an otherwise unremarkable comedy caper.Author: CM
