Willow (1988)
Director: Ron Howard
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
It is a dark and stormy night. In the bowels of evil Queen Bavmorda's fortress, a child is born with a birthmark. According to the prophecy, this innocent child signifies the end of Bavmorda's rule, and must die. However, a floating tussock carries her to safety in the land of the Nelwyns, a race of friendly munchkins. The chase is on...George Lucas may just be producing Star Wars in furs, but it's still a great Christmas movie. The bulk of it concerns the attempts of Willow Ufgood (Davis) to take the child Elora Danan to the good witch Raziel (Hayes). On the quest he falls in with Madmartigan (Kilmer), a plausible rogue who develops the screaming thigh sweats for Sorsha (Whalley), daughter of bad Bavmorda (Marsh). Along the way they encounter Death Dogs, Brownies, Faeries, Trolls, and a two-headed, fire-breathing monster. The pace is breakneck, the plot so thin that it threatens to fragment into so many pieces, the SFX out of this world.Author: MS
