Woman in a Dressing Gown (1957)
Director: J Lee Thompson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Proof that the kitchen sink wasn't invented in the 1960s. Ted Willis' domestic drama was originally produced on television, then filmed (from his own script) to some contemporary acclaim. Yvonne Mitchell gives it the works in the juicy role of a drudge who fights to rekindle the affection of her husband (Quayle) when he asks for a divorce. There's a great bit when a rainstorm ruins her new hairdo, but it's heavy weather throughout; a depressing reminder of prevailing British sexual attitudes.Author: TCh
