The Day of the Triffids (1962)
Director: Steve Sekely
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Not a particularly faithful adaptation of John Wyndham's novel, though it sticks to the basic theme about a world epidemic of blindness followed by the attack of strange plant-like creatures called 'triffids'. The film shows signs of having been put together rather patchily, with several uncertain performances and some rather dodgy process work. But quite a few of Wyndham's ideas do translate to the screen most effectively, like the airliner whose crew and passengers are suddenly struck blind, and the electric fortress surrounded for miles and miles around by invading triffids. Sometimes unintentionally funny, and it could have done without the customary moralising.Author: DP
