From Time Out Film Guide

An ageing Bronson is released from gaol to clear the local territory of human trash. The mugger-slugger shows Brooklyn how to fight back, and provides much ammunition for anti-liberals: warfare not welfare. Initial excitement at the welter of violence soon palls into boredom, only intermittently relieved by the preposterousness of the action. With the strong element of fantasy, the frenetic attempts to create an end-product, and the squandering of resources, this is nothing more than cinematic masturbation.

The whole thing was devoid of any intelligence or talent.
