Decline and Fall… of a Birdwatcher! (1968)
Director: John Krish
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Rather softened adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's first novel satirising the mores of decadent wealthy Britain, with Phillips as the innocent undergraduate being sent down from Oxford and suffering a sentimental education (while teaching in a seedy Welsh boarding-school) at the hands of various darkly comic characters. Faithful to the letter if not quite the spirit of Waugh (it lacks the novel's bite, and is also unwisely updated), it's nevertheless endowed with strong performances all round and civilised, if literary, direction by Krish.Author: GA
