Modest, unassuming and tremblingly fresh, this is the kind of miracle that will always pass unnoticed. If its theme (the end of adolescence), period (the '20s) and mood (elegiac) have all become clichés of contemporary cinema, it only confirms how much the dilettante Leenhardt, a critic, documentarist and éminence grise of the New Wave, was ahead of his time.
