D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994)
Director: Sam Weisman
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Weisman's sequel to The Mighty Ducks is the formula again, and probably mandatory for fans of juvenile ice hockey. Gordon Bombay (Estevez) is grounded from the minor leagues and returns to coaching the Mighty Ducks. This time, however, they are entered in the Junior Goodwill Games as Team USA and sponsored to the hilt. Weakling that he is, Bombay prefers a penthouse overlooking the sea to the team barracks, gets his hair swept back like the evil coach of the opposing Icelandic team, Wolf (Norgaard), and stops using the beloved duck whistle. Iceland wipes the ice with the tiny multi-ethnic Yanks until...but one's lips must remain sealed. There's a spark of interest when Estevez renders the Michael Moriarty speech from The Deadliest Season, invoking duckpond memories of the lost touchstone of integrity. Sports moralists will faint at the ease with which the introduction of a goon element into a children's team is accepted by all, not to mention the business with the lasso. Puck off.Author: BC
