The Odd Couple II (1998)
Director: Howard Deutch
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
When it comes to jokes, the old ones can be the best; be it re-release, remake or repackaged videos, the market for superannuated comedy is stronger than ever. No reason, then, why Neil Simon shouldn't resurrect Oscar Madison (Matthau) and Felix Unger (Lemmon) from his 30-year-old film script to see where life has led them. The sequel reunites them to witness the occasion of their respective son and daughter's LA wedding. Despite initial reticence, Felix and Oscar travel to the ceremony together, but a series of mishaps holds them up along the way. But for a lame start and a painful scene where Oscar tries to pick up two much younger women and subsequently becomes embroiled in a domestic with their hammy husbands, this is an entertaining oldie road movie, with the humour hotting up in the desert where the pair inflict multiple fractures on the long arm of the law.Author: MD
