Old Acquaintance (1943)
Director: Vincent Sherman
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Based on a play by John Van Druten, remade by Cukor in 1981 as Rich and Famous, this has Davis (sweet) and Hopkins (sour) as two novelists maintaining a professional and personal love-hate rivalry over twenty years. Arrant nonsense, with Davis (though Hopkins is the despicable one who writes for money) living in fabulously opulent circumstances and required to carry her noble self-sacrifice on into the next generation. Sherman and the stars somehow contrive to make it riveting.Author: TM
