One Hundred… (2001)
Director: Teng Huatao
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Naive comedy about two 17-year-olds, Ma Hui (Cui Lin) and Yu Yan (Chi Jia), who fail the Beijing Police Academy exam and determine to catch 100 thieves to prove their worth. Self-consciously feelgood, the movie seems sometimes like an ad for the capital's shiny new shopping malls and, worse, like a youth-oriented recruitment drive - its jazzed-up MTV jump cuts and bright colour palette signalling an attempt by Beijing Film Studios at superficial modernisation.Author: WH
