Only You (1994)
Director: Norman Jewison
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Though convinced by a childhood ouija game that she's destined to marry a man named 'Damon Bradley', incorrigible romantic Faith Corvatch (Tomei) is now betrothed to a dull podiatrist. Until, that is, she answers a phone call from one of her fiancé's school chums who's passing through Pittsburgh en route to Venice, Italy - his name, Damon Bradley. She dashes to the airport, misses him, then sets off in quest of her soulmate. Damon, however, proves elusive, and in Rome Faith is wooed by shoe-salesman Peter (Downey), who tries to persuade her that he, Mr Wright, is a better bet than her fantasy Mr Right. With smitten Peter now in pursuit, Faith persists in her quest, scouring the Tuscan countryside and coastline for the man of her dreams. For a veteran director, Jewison is surprisingly light on his feet, though he tends to wander off forgetfully at times, leaving the plot to advance without him. Even so, the ravishing visuals, some swooning love songs, and the strains of Verdi should see you through to the predictably moist ending.Author: NF
