Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Hollywood was never at its best describing rustic simplicities and folksy values, as in this account of the humble lives of a Norwegian farming community in Wisconsin. Good performances (Moorehead in particular) and a fair feel for the pace of country life, but the film's better moments (the kids squabbling over a pair of roller-skates, the arrival of the circus in town) have to be offset against the crampingly studio-bound atmosphere and an intrusively conventional love interest.
