From Time Out Film Guide

Restrained study of a young musical couple's first marital crisis, occasioned by their retreat into the Slovak countryside. He can compose in broody silence, but she's stymied by the loss of her performing life. It's framed from the perspective of their timid young neighbour, busily drawing her own conclusions about marriage from the sidelines, but that feels tokenistic. It is strongest holding to the wife's mixed feelings about her source of intimacy and excitement. Sympathetic so far as it goes, but curiously low key throughout.
