Far From the Madding Crowd (1967)
Director: John Schlesinger
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Another classic bites the dust. Thomas Hardy's Bathsheba, a country girl who attempts to better her station and find true love, miscast Julie Christie just as effectively as did Dr Zhivago; for some mysterious reason, the notion that she should play classic roles was one that persisted for several years. Nicolas Roeg's evocative photography of the West Country dominates the film, and shows up the characters as just going through the motions.Author: PH

- Posted on Apr 11 2009 02:01 This was an iconic masterpiece for it's time. It possessed all aspects of social country life, in Dorset for the period. Julie and Alan were superb. In the local cinema that my girlfriend and I first saw this film, we and many others stayed on to watch it again.
