Fellini in the self-indulgent mood that mars so much of his later work, taking us on an extravagantly sentimental and grotesque tour of 'his' Rome. The lack of any structural organisation of his 'insights' and 'memories' - though flaccid fantasies would be a better description - and the familiar gallery of obese, noisome stereotypes quickly become tiresome. But there is no denying that the man still has the capacity to pull off startling visual coups.Author: GA
