Detailed and assured chronicle of RJ Mitchell's trials and triumphs in designing and building the Spitfire, the fighter plane whose aerial superiority won the Battle of Britain. Director/star Howard - who died on an RAF mission in 1943 - brings appropriate dedication to his final screen role, while Niven is suitably chummy as his test-pilot pal.
