The Flame and the Arrow (1950)
Director: Jacques Tourneur
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The first of Burt Lancaster's attempts to revive the swashbuckling spirit of Douglas Fairbanks Senior. Perhaps not quite so irresistibly ebullient as The Crimson Pirate, but also less arch in its use of verbal anachronisms. Great fun, at any rate, beautifully paced by Tourneur, as Lancaster and Cravat romp through their incredible gymnastic stunts while rescuing medieval Lombardy from wicked oppressors.Author: TM
