Flight of the Doves (1971)
Director: Ralph Nelson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Having perpetrated a repellent mixture of bloody violence, pacifist plea and spoony romance in Soldier Blue, Nelson followed upwith this equally odious whimsy about two Liverpudlian moppets who take flight from a cruel stepfather and head for Ireland, where a loving granny (McGuire) waits with open arms in a little thatched cottage. Various grotesques met along the way, plus Moody as a wicked uncle with an eye to their inheritance (and adopting a series of wild disguises as he gives chase), provide some laborious relief from the maudlin sentiment. Nelson produced and co-scripted as well as directing, so the sorry mess is all his.Author: TM
