Fools Rush In (1997)
Director: Andy Tennant
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A nervy NY exec (Perry) has a fling in Las Vegas with a Mexican photographer (Hayek). Result, pregnancy. His stern New England poetry, however, is at odds with her vibrant magic realism (literally, a battle of the books). Playing a smart alec terrified by his own lack of substance, Perry seems genuinely in need, as helpless in his own way as old stars like Grant or Stewart. Hayek is also impressive, endowing the photographer with an unaffected moral strength. The scenes with Alex's WASPish parents are amusingly jagged: reactionary in-laws are usually 'brought round', but these two (Perry and Clayburgh) remain politely vile throughout. Scriptwriter Katherine Reback rather takes her time answering all the old questions.Author: CO'Su
