François Truffaut, Portraits Volés (1992)
Director: Serge Toubiana, Michel Pascal
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
It's not hard to guess why people like Jean-Pierre Léaud and Jean-Luc Godard wouldn't participate in this autopsy of Truffaut's reputation as a man and as a film-maker, but it's harder to understand why the directors pass over their absence in silence. In essence, this is a clips-and-talking-heads documentary, notably mainly for prying into some of the darker corners of Truffaut's psyche, including the ruthlessness with which he craved attention during his days as a young critic. Both fans and non-fans will come away with their prejudices confirmed.Author: TR
