Simplistic dialogue with all the subtlety of a WWII comic book mars this visually exciting effort which replays The Magnificent Seven on an epic scale against the background of invasion-raddled China at the end of the Ming dynasty. Wang Yu - the original one-armed swordsman - who wrote, directed and stars in the film, shows skill in shaping individual shots and keeping the project (which took three years to complete) afloat with some superb torchlit battles.Author:
