Beat the Devil (2000)
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In this offbeat spoof of Maltese Falcon-type thrillers, an ill-assorted group of travellers are en route to the African coast, where they each plan to stake a claim to a plot of uranium-rich land. Truman Capote's absurdly talky script is stuffed with in-jokes and bizarre characters, but is seldom as clever as it thinks it is. Despite slack plotting and a complete lack of suspense, the film has achieved an undeserved cult status.Author: NF
