The Betty Boop Follies (1972)
Director: Dave Fleischer
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A random collection of fourteen cartoons featuring the cartoon vamp created by Max Fleischer, the only real rival of the Disney and Ub Iwerks team in American animation of the early '30s. The mini-skirted and gartered Betty resembles the dumb broad sex-object satirised by Wilder in Some Like It Hot, but it's difficult to see why the Hayes Office considered the character too risqué. Fleischer's style at times borders on surrealism, the animation feeding off the rhythms of the soundtrack popular jazz music. The cartoons, originally in black-and-white, have been brightly coloured electronically.Author: RM
