From Time Out Film Guide

Filming in Germany against the backdrop of the Berlin Airlift adds an extra element of historical interest to this social-conscience picture exploring differing American attitudes to the former enemy five years after the war. Clift is good value as the young idealist airman who discovers that girlfriend Borchers has been lying to him about her past, while radio operator Douglas, soured by his experiences during combat, can barely disguise his xenophobia, even though he's going out with pretty fraulein Löbel.
