Bitter Sweet (1940)
Director: WS Van Dyke
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Second screen version of the Noël Coward operetta (adapted by Lesser Samuels) about young love in turn-of-the-century Vienna. MacDonald pips, squeaks and chirps in her melodious fashion as the red-cheeked English rose who elopes to Austria. Eddy is her music teacher and sweetheart. Shot in best MGM Technicolor, the film looks a treat, but there's no disguising the flimsy, winsome storyline.Author: GM
