Black Eye (1973)
Director: Jack Arnold
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Not a bad stab at all at turning out a private eye film in the Chandler mould around a black investigator called Stone, played not brilliantly but well enough by Williamson. The Southern Californian environment is sketched in well, a superficially bland jungle populated by eccentric mystics, phony Godmongers, smooth society women, and a seemingly eclectically chosen array of corpses. Having Stone too out-of-pocket to afford an office but operating out of a neighbourhood bar is also a nice touch. And several of the women characters remain firmly in the mind. Unexpected place to find the director of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.Author: VG
