Repeat teaming for Becker and Joseph Wambaugh after The Onion Field, mining the latter's usual preoccupation in an adaptation of his novel about a cop driven to drink by the pressures of his job, but pulling himself together when he is teamed with policewoman Prentiss as his new partner.
