Blondie (1938)
Director: Frank Strayer
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
First in the series based on Chic Young's comic strip about the bumbling Dagwood Bumstead and his dizzy blonde wife (who wore the pants, but pretended not to). Popular at the time, brightly and breezily done, it ran to twenty-seven sequels ending in 1950, during which time Baby Dumpling (played throughout by Simms) grew up to become the adolescent Alexander. A prototype of the average TV sitcom today.Author: TM
