Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)
Director: John Landis
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In 1980 John Landis' rhythm 'n' blues demolition derby was slated by critics (see above) and written off as a box office flop. It became a cult hit, and must now be counted a popular classic. Eighteen years since his last public engagement, Elwood Blues (Aykroyd) is broke and all but washed up. Despite the death of his brother Jake (John Belushi), he decides to put the band back together for one last throw of the dice. This isn't a sequel, it's a remake. Some ingredients have been substituted, but it's the same recipe of R & B and comic overkill. As before, the best thing is the music: Aretha Franklin, Sam Moore, James Brown. The rest is stale, cynical and hamfisted.Author: TCh
