Body and Soul (1981)
Director: George Bowers
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
With great predecessors like The Set-Up, Fat City and Raging Bull, it's hard to see how this travesty (rather than remake) of the Rossen/Polonsky original could be so agonisingly awful. Sketchily skipping through the predictable vacillations of its boxer-hero's career, the film's plastic performances, saccharine sentiments, inept fight scenes, and sexist fantasy all vie for the honour of pummelling the audience into mindless shock.
