A schoolboy puts in a hard day's truanting, cycling around photogenic town and seafront locations in County Durham, while musing, stream of consciousness style, on everything from time (Will I remember today when I'm 80?) to the significance of the dead lion on the Tate & Lyle Syrup label. Shot in 1961, post-produced by the BFI Experimental Film Fund and presented under their auspices, it's imaginative, unpretentious, fluent and professional, and just a little thin: Scott beginning as he meant to go on. Young Tony, on this evidence, could have had a decent career as an actor.Author: BBa
