Breaker Morant (1979)
Director: Bruce Beresford
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Three lieutenants (Woodward, Brown, Fitz-Gerald), members of an Australian platoon fighting in the Boer War, are court-martialled for murdering Boer prisoners and a German missionary, and Jack Thompson steps in to try to prove their innocence. It's a Paths of Glory situation, complete with righteous anger at the expedient conniving authorities, distinguished by some strong courtroom scenes and an overwhelming pessimism. If it hardly breaks any new ground either formally or politically, it's nevertheless a moving and highly professional affair, in which Brown and Thompson give particularly good performances.Author: GA

There may be some inconsistencies with the facts involving this film; however, I believe after viewing the movie and reading the book "Shoot Straight, You Bastards" that this film personified the colonial mindset of the British of this era. It is my belief, although enough cover up of the truth has been put forth, that Lord Kitchener was responsible for the careless disposal of Leftenants Morant and Handcock's lives as scapegoat military officers during the "Second Boer" war. From my perspective, the British have been very adept when it comes to whom is and is not expendable when it suits their purpose. My latest painful recollection is that of Princess Diana. "God Save The Queen:" I think not!
