Travers donned a kilt and spruced up his braw bricht accent one more time for this Launder and Gilliat frolic (from a novel by Nigel Tranter), in which a cheery Hebridean islander, Ewan McEwan, is despatched to the mainland to search for a wife. Along the way, he gets himself mistaken for a notorious salmon poacher. In the end, however, he's allowed to marry his island sweetheart (Fiona Clyne), who turns out not to be his cousin after all (the island Elders had been worried about inbreeding). Everything's handled very decorously (this being 1959), but the jokes are a bit thin, and the Technicolor landscape (photographed by Arthur Ibbetson) is laid on rather thick.Author: TJ
