La Cage aux Folles III: The Wedding (1985)
Director: Georges Lautner
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The huge success of the original rested on Mr and Mrs Popcorn's delighted discovery that, deep down, all those raving queers were very wonderful human beings just like them, while hipper viewers savoured its sly send-up of sexual stereotypes. Fat chance of either happening in this silly farrago of a second sequel, wherein Serrault's flamboyant drag artiste (his ample form, encased in a black-and-yellow striped leotard, bringing new meaning to the term Queen Bee) must sire a child to inherit a fortune. Serrault is too, too outré as the shrieking Zaza, Tognazzi approaches rigor mortis as his straightman, and Lautner (taking over from Edouard Molinaro) directs with zero comic flair.Author: SJo
