Le Capitaine Fracasse (1942)
Director: Abel Gance
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Forget Napoleon and its vaulting ambition. Directed with bare competence, this is a limp adaptation of Théophile Gautier's historical fantasy (one of the source books of camp) about a penniless baron who joins a group of travelling players after falling for the ingénue. Both the theatrical and the swashbuckling larks remain dispiritingly lifeless.Author: TM
