No relation whatever to De Palma's schlock-horror shocker, but a typically grave Wyler adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's dry novel of social criticism, Sister Carrie. Depicting the sliding scales of love and money in turn-of-the-century Chicago, the film has Olivier sinking further and further towards ruin with every helping hand he offers to aspiring, ambitious actress Jones.Author: PT
