Rappaport's debut feature was an object lesson in turning the limitations of a poverty-row budget to advantage. Various lonely New York neurotics live out their isolated fantasies, fed by cathode-ray glare and memories of movies. It's all pretty funny. A shrink like Lacan might call it a revision of the psychotic subject; the Walker Brothers called their version In My Room.Author: TR
