La Chute de la Maison Usher (1928)
Director: Jean Epstein
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Epstein's stunningly beautiful Poe adaptation has always been notable for its impressionistic approach to narrative and for the brooding, gothic lyricism of its images, but this restored print from the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique, complete with original colour tinting, may well advance its claim to be one of the most imaginative and entrancing horror movies of the silent era. If its dreamlike strangeness seems faintly surreal, don't forget that Epstein's assistant was none other than the young Luis Buñuel.Author: GA
