Clay Pigeons (1998)
Director: David Dobkin
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Cowtown, Montana, and Clay Bidwell's life is about to turn pear shaped. First his best friend shoots himself over an infidelity argument; then the girl at the centre of it all blows away his sleeping partner; and that's even before Clay (Phoenix) is befriended by Stetson-wearing newcomer Lester Long (Vaughn), a sweet-talking charmer who's a little, shall we say, unhinged. Pretty soon, bodies are a-mountin' and it looks like Clay'll be taking the rap. This quirky comedy thriller, produced by Ridley Scott, is both blackly funny and, at times, tensely disturbing and quite macabre. Much of the film's appeal is down to Matt Healy's sparky dialogue and the excellent performances of both leads.Author: DA
