The Cloud (1998)
Director: Fernando E Solanas
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This film from the director of Sur is strong on atmospherics, but skimpy on plot. The fate of a Buenos Aires theatre (a national treasure, according to the artists) becomes a gloomy microcosm for the state of the nation. Allegory hangs heavy in the air. It has rained for 1,651 days straight and everyone is glued to the TV set. Solanas is a dab hand with smoke and mirrors, running time back and forth at different film speeds, but this exercise in rambling and pretentious nostalgia is unmistakably an old man's movie.Author: TCh
